She started her career as a dancer but gradually she become more interestedto work backstage.  She is even a mom and she travels a lot acording to her work.

What’s your name and what do you do?
Elisa Petrolo.
Good question. I do a lot of different things. I’m an assistant director, an art coordinator, a production assistant. I work in theater.

How did you get started in this career?
As a dancer, I started when I was little. I started to discover it and I was fascinated by the theaters, the shows, musicals. We had a house in London and I got into the world of theater. I moved from the stage to behind the scenes because they asked me to, to be honest. I was fascinated by the technical staff, and all the things that make a show happen. Gradually I become more interested, and people became more interested in me, and I started to work backstage.

Where will you be 3 months from now?
I don’t know yet. Probably on the other side of the world.

Where do you live?
Amsterdam for a year, Berlin for a year, Bremen (boh???)…I’d like to live in Montreal for a while. I really like the city, but I’ve only been there for a month for work.

Describe your day in 20 seconds.
First, I’m a mom, so I make food, change diapers, get dressed and take my little girl to pre-school. Then my work life starts. I check my email, make phone calls, sometimes I have to go to rehearsals, to the theater. Then I come home, pick up my girl at pre-school, and I go back to being a mom.

What are your hobbies?
I paint female nudes. I also do photography. I do black and white nudes, and I sell them too.

How many phones have you broken?
You’re trying to aggravate me! This is trick question…I’ve lost count.

Where would you go if had a time machine?
I would go back in time and watch my life from the outside.

What would you do if zombies attacked?
What would I do if zombies attacked? Pour boiling oil on their heads! I don’t know.

What are three things that matter, and three things that don’t?
Three things that matter…work, travel, and love, obviously. The things that don’t matter…shopping doesn’t interest me…nice cars, short men.

How do you feel about packing your bags?
It’s a nightmare. I have to do it every other day, and it makes me want to cry. It takes me an entire day.

What do you think of fashion?
I think it’s a great show. I’ve worked backstage at fashion shows, and it’s interesting because unlike theater, fashion deals with aesthetic details, while theater is about the performance, it requires a longer preparation, … the characters you find in fashion are wonderful though, they’re stars. We could do a show about it, about the backstage at fashion shows.
